Corrigan wants to put his extensive real-world financial management and leadership skills to work for the people of Pierce County in 2012. Helping Families & Seniors
- be a champion for Pierce County taxpayers. He wants to help keep them in their homes during these tough economic times
- engage the State Legislature and stop the foreclosures on struggling families and seniors
- eliminate fees associated with paying property taxes online
- educate and notify low-income seniors who may be eligible to defer property taxes
Creating Jobs & Supporting Businesses
- create tax-incentives for businesses to create living-wage jobs to assist in rebuilding the local economy
- partner with small-business owners to address barriers of hiring
Educating & Engaging Homeowners
- provide workshops with homeowners to teach them about valuations and the valuation process
- teach homeowners how to appeal their property valuation if they think they’re paying more then their fair share
- set up Q & A sessions in every city and town in Pierce County so residents can talk to department staff about property taxes and ask questions that receive immediate answers
Make Government Work for Pierce County Residents
- work with county officials at every level to prioritize government spending and create efficiencies instead of bureaucracies
- eliminate computer assessments and automatic tax assessment increases
- coordinate with local governments, the real estate community and county records to gather and create the most accurate property data possible
Create a desirable place to work
- create a culture of customer service at the department and enable to department to be resourceful, accessible and helpful
- provide the department staff opportunities to upgrade their skills and certification and to achieve advancement in order to retain the most talented and experienced people
- create apprenticeship and internship programs to provide training to individuals who want to become assessors
Creating efficiencies in the Assessor-Treasurer Department
- work with front line staff to identify and reduce overhead while preserving skilled workforce positions in the Assessor-Treasurer department
- improve the Assessor-Treasurer website to prove how your property was assessed and provide comparable market data
- provide E-Notification to homeowners for tax assessments for those who prefer
